I used this book mainly to study to study for my second year of medical school and to prep for the USMLE Step 1. This book doesn't have every nitty gritty detail that might be on exams or the boards, but I found it was good for a few things:

1) The graphical layout was really fantastic to look at before starting a new section of pharmacology to orient myself to all the drug groups and their relations. Sometimes I would put notes from the syllabus/lectures into the book for stuff the prof stressed that wasn't in the book. It was also good to gain some handy mnemonics.

2) It was good to hit up the book close to comprehensive exams and the Step 1 to refresh my memory about drugs I hadn't studied in a while.

The MAJOR advantage this had over other books like Katzung or Goodman & Gilman was its CONCISE and has pictures. I found it impossible to memorize from pages written text. It's kind of like "Clinical Microbiology Made Ridiculously Simple" except the graphics in this book are much nicer/in color.

I think this book was great for reviewing pharm for USMLE step 1.

Pros:
-The images and the layout of the pages made digesting the information very easy!
-good mnemonics
-concise

Cons:
-I wouldn't recommend it for the nitty-gritty of drugs. I would go to more dense books (e.g. katzung or goodman & gilman). But I don't hold this against the book in my rating, since it is meant to be a review book.

Overall I give this book 5 stars!

About the Author

A.J. Veal is Adjunct Professor in the Business School at the University of Technology, Sydney and previously worked in the University of Birmingham and the then Polytechnic of North London. He is past president of the (UK) Leisure Studies Association and of the Australian and New Zealand Association for Leisure Studies and well known for his writing in the fields of leisure, sport and tourism, including co-authorship of The Olympic Games: A Social Science Perspective.

Simon Darcy is Professor of Events, Sport and Tourism in the Business School, University of Technology, Sydney. He is a mixed-methods and interdisciplinary researcher with interests in sport event legacies, sport tourism, inclusive organisational practices, disability sport and volunteer management. He has published in Sport Management Review, Journal of Sport Management, European Sports Management Quarterly, Event Management and Disability & Society, is co-author of Benchmark Games: The Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games, and has produced sport research reports commissioned by government, commercial and not-for-profit organisations.

New Age Healing Handbook

Rather a disappointment as none of the ads for this book hinted at the strong new age slant of the healing techniques. For each health topic the remedies cover areas like Acupressure, Aromatherapy, Ayurveda, Flower Remedy/Essence Therapy, Food Therapy, Homeopathy, Hyrotherapy, Imagery, Juice Therapy, Massage, Reflexology, Relaxation & Meditation, Vitamin & Mineral Therapy and Yoga. Most of these would seem to appeal to the esoteric new age mindset. In my opinion, about 30 percent of the 700+ page book are based upon useful scientific data. Overall, it was disappointing. I am glad I bought the paperback version and not the $20+ hardback copy.

good overall intro: Covers many areas with helpful sketches

I already owned 2 great books: "Prescription for Nutritional Healing ..." by James F., Md. Balch, Phyllis A. Balch and Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine, by Michael T. Murray et al. I Found the translation of Gottlieb's book in Farsi for my mom in Westwood California. I was amazed by the variety of different info/techniques offered. From Herbs to Aromatherapy, from water therapy to cognitive therapy, from Yoga to Accupressure with pressure point charts. It sold for $18 and I thought it was well worth it. The 800 pages still can not delve too deeply into every thing. For example, 20 or 30 pictures in Yoga poses can only be a quick review of the most important moves, but it is a very nice intro for people who need to take the first step into better nutrition and healthy thinking. I am still amazed that this book has not gotten the attention it deserves in this country when books by John Gray sell like hot cookies. My mom who had blood pressures and did not yet believe too much in alternative medicine (with a triple-board physician son) is hooked on this book. I have not found any wrong info imo in this book yet, whereas I find half of the best selling "natural healing" worthless and inaccurate. hope this helps.

Many great approaches!

By day, Pat Tucker works as a radio news director in Houston, Texas. By night, she is a talented writer with a knack for telling page-turning stories. She is the author of Somebody Has to Pay, The Cocktail Club, Sideline Scandals, Party Girl, Daddy’s Maybe, Football Widows (soon to be a movie), Daddy by Default, and Lachez (an original e-short). She is the coauthor with Earl Sewell of Loyalty Among Friends and A Social Affair and has participated in three anthologies, including New York Times bestselling author Zane’s Caramel Flava. A graduate of San Jose State University, Pat is a member of the National and Houston Association of Black Journalists and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. She is married with two children.

One of my favorite authors

First of all she resides here in Houston, Texas, we communicate often and her books are phenomenal, they will have you hanging on the edge of your seat and you can't put it down. By the way this book will also educate so many on the ups and downs men go through just for being involved with a woman who tries to ruin their lives and by those that love someone else's kids but are somewhat abused by the mother of the kids. You have to get this book.

Pat Tucker has done it again

This sequel to Daddy by Default was a tail spin. Serena is still not learning her lesson, Parker's trying to get on with his life, Eboni's and Lachez are still a mess. These ladies are still a little crazy but I liked how the book ended. Seeing how these stories played out answered a few questions for me about the ending of Daddy by Default. It boggles the mind though how there are so many women out there doing this very same thing: trying to force men to pay for children they know aren't theirs biologically just to make someone pay. Pat Tucker did a great job! Can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

And the Drama continues

What a way to pick up where you left off!
And to think i thought it was all said and done. Nope, not at all when it comes to women like Lachez and Sarena. They just do not know how toleave well enough alone. They are always scheming up a way to hurt the next man that comes along, really all they do is scar that man when he fidns the right woman for him. So sad. These women are viscious when it comes to limits, they have none. They will do whatever they feel they are ccapable of to get things by any means necesssary.

Thankfully, Parker was able to get out of all the drama althought he did gain Semaj in the end result. To think James was lead to believe that Semaj was his child when really Serena had schemed yet again and managed to conceive a child with a man who unbeknownst to him was livign a life as another man's daughter. Women these days are known to do such trifling things. pitiful.

And please lets not forget about those twins that were not even by the famous basketball player. She really thought she was about to get some money. Should have left well enough alone. But then againt hat is too much like right. She had to go and get greedy and lost her best friend in teh process.

Sometimes getting with a famous person is not all its cracked up to be, especially when you are not with that person for the right reasons to begin with then you have set yourself up for failure.

Let that be a lesson to those who think that they can treat people any old kind of way.
