Spoiler alert. Finding Hope is a romance with each of our couple dealing with terrible issues in their past. Emily is moving to Nugget, California to live in a barn while she tests recipes so she can ghost writes cookbooks.She is dealing with the disappearance of her little girl. The barn belongs to Clay who is dealing with his two sons grief over the scandalous death of their mother. These two wounded souls find that life does move on. This book was a little sad for me because even though love helps these two, the past is still unresolved and the unknown of the missing girl is heart breaking.

This is the story of Clay and Emily, Stacy Finz’ second book in her Nugget Romance series. Clay is a rancher, a widower with two sons. Emily is a cookbook author/editor/ghostwriter, divorced with a daughter Hope who has been missing since she was four years old. Despite her misgivings, Emily develops a relationship with Clay and his sons. With wonderful descriptions and heartfelt emotions, we see Nugget from the perspective of someone who needs to regain her strength to face the world.

I love that this author is not in a hurry. She lets the story build naturally while she subtly educates her readers on a variety of topics – each book something different. This book details the fallout and emotions of a missing child – the love, guilt and never-ending need to know. It also teaches us about cookbooks - what goes in to writing and promoting them, from the recipe creation process through to the photos in the book. Above all, though, this book is about recovering from life’s traumas and learning to love again. Stacy Finz writes what we feel, with depth and passion, curiosity and tenderness, and hope and humor! Don’t forget the humor!

Gripping read, sweet romance!

"Finding Hope" Is a wonderfully apt title for this story because for our main character Emily Matthews this story centers around finding Hope in more ways then one.

Emily Matthews has just moved to Nugget California taking up residence on the McCreedy ranch, renting a converted barn from Clay McCreedy handsome, strong cattle rancher, father of two and retired naval aviator. Emily and Clay both have much to overcome both trying to move on after life altering events . Four years ago Emily and Drew Matthews life took a sudden turn when their six year old daughter Hope was abducted, which led to the constant barrage by the media, the police and the eventual demise of their marriage. Emily needs to start over. Her x husband has he found a great women who helped him through his loss and grief and is set to remarry and Emily is truly happy for him. Ms Finz, has wonderful character development throughout this book not only with Clay , Emily. And the boys but with multiple characters with a side story between newcomer Griffin Parks and Lina the younger sister to the town Sherrif Rhys, I am looking foward to their full story ; it should be great, but the town of Nugget is rich with Character's and this series looks promising! I found myself absolutely compelled to keep reading wanting to see Emily come through the other side and find "Hope " ; could not put this down!

Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the Structural Eurocodes, with particular reference to actions on structures. Chapter 2 describes the principles, requirements and methods used for the design of members. This is followed by worked examples for the following structures:

A multi-storey office building with three forms of floor construction

A basement to the office building with three types of foundations

A free-standing cantilever earth-retaining wall

A large underground service reservoir

An open-top rectangular tank on an elastic soil

An open-top cylindrical tank on an elastic soil

In addition to the design of all the elements, the analysis of each structure is fully explained. This applies particularly to the design of the basement, and the tanks bearing on elastic soils, for which specially derived tables are included in appendices to the book. The calculations are complemented by reinforcement drawings in accordance with the recommendations in the third edition (2006) of the Standard method of detailing structural concrete, with commentaries on the bar arrangements.

This book can be used as a stand-alone publication, or as a more detailed companion to Reynolds’s Reinforced Concrete Designer’s Handbook, now in its 11th edition. The comprehensive treatment of the designs, and the variety of structures considered, make this a unique and invaluable work.

About the Author
Daniel R. Brower is Professor of History at the University of California, Davis.

Thomas Sanders received his doctorate in Russian history from Stanford University. He has taught at a variety of colleges and universities, including Stanford, Georgia Southern, the University of Dayton, Oberlin College, and since 1990 at the US Naval Academy. His most recent book is a collaborative translation and commentary entitled "Against the Mountains: Qarakhi's Shining Swords and Tolstoy's Hadji Murat Depict Russian-Muslim Conflict in the Caucasus, " (Routledge-Curzon, 2004). He has just begun a biography of the Soviet composer Vladimir Shainskii. He lives in Maryland with his wife, daughter, son, dog and rabbit. Stephen Morillo grew up in New Orleans, then received his AB from Harvard and his DPhil from Oxford. After spending several years as a cartoonist, he has since taught at Loyola (New Orleans), the University of Georgia, and since 1989 at Wabash College, with a year at Hawai i Pacific University as their NEH Distinguished Visiting Professor in 2003-04. He is the author of several books and numerous articles on various combinations of medieval, military and global history, and continues to draw cartoons and paint. He lives in Indiana with his wife, three children, and two cats.

An overlooked classic

Gauguin reminds the reader throughout his journal, " I am not a writer". He writes in a stream of consciousness manner-witty, bold, and just plain funny , as he goes on about his disgust with authority, the church, pompous people, the art scene in France. Gauguin's free spirit still refreshes, especially in today's world of political correctness and conformity.. He possessed a keen intelligence and capacity for stirring insights- about art and his fellow artists, bourgeois French life, the ruination of Tahiti by French influence, His descriptions of Van Gogh and other later- to- be -known artists are fascinating, as well as his discussions on his life in Tahiti. Gauguin gave his life to his art, at the cost of financial stability and his family. He suffered greatly a result. In the meantime, he produced monumental work that have only grown in stature thru time. Gauguin has also emerged as a truly great and iconic artist of his time. This is the original version, banned as obscene soon after publication. Do not waste your time with the sanitized, later version, "Nora Nora", Reading a biography first better puts into context many of Gauguin's often biting and hilarious observations. But remember, Gauguin is not a writer.
