Excellent Resource

I order this because I have been studying chord progressions in rock music to that in jazz and classical. I was not anticipating the full transcription with the horn parts. This is a great book if you are in a cover band and want to do some Chicago tunes.

Good book. However, some of the writing is a bit strange. It seems like some measure are left out. Where repeats should be, there are none,ect. It's just very strange writing. If youre going to transcribe these into a notation software be prepared. Notes and rhythms are correct, and thats what I got this book for. Also, not every song has a transcription for a Clarinet or alto. If it does, the tenor part is not included. So basically, only one woodwind is included for every song. Other than that this book is great. If youre band wants to do some Chicago tunes get this book

Great transcriptions, incomplete book.

I just received my book. The transcriptions are great... just like the record. Solos and all (i hope i can play the trombone solo well enough). However, the book stops at page 112, and "25 or 6 to 4" starts on page 114. I will not complain because I really only bought this for Beginnings, but it would be nice to have 25 or 6 to 4 too.

Makes me realize the power of creative expression

Before reading this book, I had no idea there was such a thing as Expressive Arts Therapy. My wife is a dancer, and picked up this book after hearing Rea on CBC talking about her experiences in the ballet world. I started flipping through it and was drawn into Rea's life story. The book starts with a series of vignettes covering her experiences in ballet school and dancing professionally. This was a fascinating glimpse into a world that I was never aware of. Rea tells her story in a conversational way, with a lot of self-deprecating humour.

Rea then goes into what Expressive Arts Therapy is and how it works. I found this really interesting and it made sense to me how approaching your problems through creative expression could help to get you out of your negative thinking. Rea explains the rationale behind her points clearly enough for me to understand, and I knew nothing about psychotherapy before I read this book.

Rea talks in some detail about a client with an eating disorder. I was immediately drawn to this client. Rea portrays him not as some basket case who needs professional help, but as a real person struggling with life. I can identify. For years I suffered from social anxiety disorder. I read a lot of books on cognitive behavior therapy that helped me change my thinking, but it was a slow process. I wonder now if I had known about Expressive Arts Therapy whether using things like writing or music or painting would've helped pull me out of my old behavior patterns.

It's a bit of a weird book in that it's part autobiography and part textbook. But I think it works. Rea's life stories about her dance career and about her father are interesting and funny and sad, and she ties them into the theme of Expressive Arts Therapy. I was touched by this book, and I think it's motivating me to be more creative in my life! I think it can help others and that is why I have written this review.

A Healing Read

The Healing Dance is both a very moving and courageous account of a personal healing journey and an excellent introduction to the subject of Arts Therapy.

Rae's account of healing an eating disorder and dealing with her father's illness and death often brought tears to my eyes but also laughter from her self-deprecating humor.

I knew very little about Arts Therapy before reading this book. She does an excellent job describing the theory and techniques involved. The long case history and the other examples from her practice often resonated with my own experiences and clearly demonstrated the concepts she presented.

An absolute triumph

In a previous review, of Thor: Godbomb, I questioned whether Esad Ribic's art would fit the comic when Thor returned to Earth. I'm very happy to say that it does. In fact, I think the story collected here is the best thing he's ever done. His depictions of technology, of the small town of Broxton, of Galactus, and some wonderfully creepy trolls, all are excellent. Ive Svorcina's palette is still a little dark, but is wider in range than before. In the last issue collected here, the artist is Agustin Alessio, whose work I have never seen before but certainly hope to again. It's a touch more delicate than Ribic's, but manages to hold the reader's attention in an issue that has virtually no action.
I still think that the Gorr story was not very original, but as with the art, any reservations I had about Jason Aaron's writing have been blown away by this collection. Where to start? Well, Roz Solomon, the newest supporting character, is a triumph of creation. She's about as close to a believable human being as one can get in a milieu filled with airborne spy stations, thunder gods and trolls. She's stubborn, persistent,courageous, intelligent, anxious to prove herself, attracted to Thor but very reluctant to just be 'Thor's girlfriend', and prepared to stand up to him when she thinks he's making a mistake. One feels that if it had been her rather than Jane Foster who was taken to Asgard way back in Thor 136, she'd not only have passed Odin's tests for godhood, she'd have turned around and told the old guy how absurd and unfair the tests were.
What of Thor himself? Well, (and this is not entirely down to Aaron, true) he's finally got a character that goes beyond bland nobility.The period (brief in the Kirby/Lee days) when he was at loggerheads with his father, has been extended and more closely examined, and of course Odin's autocratic paternalism has been exposed. At one point I was a little worried that Thor was going to resemble Conan too much, but that's been avoided.(One can't imagine the Cimmerian staying up all night to read books from a cosmic library, as Thor does here.) The character-driven last part shows a Thor who is not supremely self-confident, who has doubts and regrets, without making him a whiner.
Dario Agger, the villain, has a touch of Lex Luthor about him, but also reminded me of Andrew Scott's Jim Moriarty telling Sherlock: 'I'll burn you. I'll burn the heart out of you.'
I'm still not sure if I want to see King Thor on a regular basis, but the sections with him here are well done and even touching at the conclusion. His granddaughters are terrific, and since they don't seem to be sisters, I guess that means Thor had at least three children.
There are hints here that war is coming to the Nine Realms, and I'm sure that Aaron will use it to further extend and delineate the fantasy world of Asgard, which is something I have always felt should be done. I could go on, but I expect you've got the picture by now. This is a classic in the making, and if I said before that I didn't think Aaron's Thor compared with Lee/Kirby, Simonson, and Straczynski, I take that back. Buy it.

Best self love book ever

This book is for anyone learning to love themselves more, recent breakup, in a situation ship, in a relationship, married, or just single and want to grow more. I absolutely loved this book. It is so deep and thought provoking, yet simple. After a few pages I had to put the book down and just think on what I read. I read this book after a recent breakup. This book helped me see it was for the best to leave the relationship. This book gave tips on how to heal and love again. Love myself first, then others. Everyday I see I am a better version of myself. Please read this book.

Great book covers the theory, design and actual construction of detectors and coils. By far the best book on the subject I have ever read. Probably a little too technical unless you have at least a little understanding of physics and electronics.

Romans chapter 8 tells us that we are to be led by the SPirit of God. Unfortunately most Christians haven't clue as to how to BE led. They don't know HOW to flow with the SPirit when He is moving. Get the book - Read it - and Learn! You won't be sorry.

This book (although our revelation comes from The Holy Spirit) has made a point that we need to discern what's going on in people and our Christian churches. We need a relationship with the Holy Spirit, not a religion. God hates religion. This book also makes a simple point: when we flow WITH the Holy Spirit (and not against) Him, He is FULLY able to do exceedingly and abundantly above all we may ask or think. We are sons and daughters of The Most High (when we accept Jesus as Lord and Savior) and we are vessels for His Glory , not our own.
