Great Prep for 2 Year Olds

This book is beloved by my family members for its cheerful illustrations and easy to sing lyrics. For the 2-4 year olds it gives them a look into what getting ready for school will be like. There are infants depicted, too, which helps them relate. It has these neat holes they can put their fingers in, too. My son is five now but still enjoys it. This is the only book that has lasted 3 years of interest.

This book filled with cute colorful illustrations was disappointing to me. I specifically ordered it for the holes on the pages - my 18 month old grandchild loves this type of book. The holes in this book are really small.

Have you ever been disappointed by God?

Have you ever felt like a failure as a Christian when God disappointed you? When God let you down?
What do you do when God doesn't live up to your expectations?
John the Baptist knew who Jesus was. They were cousins, acquainted with each other, maybe friends. Certainly God revealed Jesus in His glory when John baptised Him! Father, Son and Holy Spirit converge in a moment of spiritual manifestation.
But sitting in the third cell of Herod's damp, dark prison, day after day certainly didn't feel like deliverance. Where was this king? The powerful one? Where was the fire? Where was this Jesus?
If the "greatest [man] born of woman" had his questions, disappointments, frustrations, how much more might we have the same today? He knew Jesus face to face, as a man knows a friend.
Yet, his understanding was rocked by the God who answers many questions but rarely answers "Why?".
Edwards answers these issues, sort of, in an insightful, profound way. The book will lead you back to where you began but with a deeper faith and clearer insight toward this powerful, invisible God who will do what He will do.
"His ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts." Thank you, Lord.

For every Christian who has asked God, "why?"

Wow! This is an amazing little book that presents the story of John the Baptist from a perspective I doubt that most people have ever considered! You will feel as if you are right there in the story with John and you will connect with him, not merely as a "hero of the faith," but as a real person. The story is a fictional account but it is based on the true story of John the Baptist from Scripture. In fact, it is more than just "based" on it because every element from the story here is consistent with Scripture and history. Gene is a wonderful story teller and has created dialoge and included historical elements to piece the story of John's life together in a way that introduces you to the real character. The story does not depart from Scriptural truth at all but actually will help the reader to see it in a clearer, more personal and meaningful light and apply it personally.
The message of this book will grip your heart and pull you closer to Jesus Christ. If you are struggling as a Christian, whatever your circumstance (be it sickness, emotional pain, depression, discouragement, or just feeling and wondering if God has forgotten about you or that He has not lived up to your expectations of Him... If you've ever cried out to God and asked Him, "why? Where are you? Why are You silent?") this is a remarkable book you need to read. It may change your entire perspective on suffering and give you strength and hope when all seems to be crumbling around you. I wish I could have shared this book with my father before he passed away. This book is not what you expect and it is not typical. Some people who have read through it have commented that it ends a little "dark." After reading it myself, I understand to some degree what they mean (though I wouldn't use the term "dark" at all myself), but sometimes life doesn't always have such a simple, happy resolve (at least to our human way of thinking). Sometimes we just have to bear our crosses and trust in a God we don't always understand completely.
Prisoner in the Third Cell is about a mind-renewal process concerning how we approach suffering. Sometimes this story gets a little deep and you have to think about it. When you're "going through it" it makes a lot more sense! Probably one of the most difficult lessons to learn through struggle and pain is that God's grace is really sufficient. In a world where so many televangelists tell you that all you have to do is give money and have faith and everything will be perfect, this book is a refreshing insight into the reality about suffering and true faith and how God's grace really is enough. In truth I have seen more people who have tried so hard to reach some high "position" of health, wealth and success by quoting this Scripture verse and that one and practicing positive confession until they're blue in the face and only wind up more discouraged, depressed, confused, angry and weary in the battle. This little book will open the reader's eyes in a new dimension of God's grace, love and purpose through enduring hardship and those seasons when we just can't understand why, and the heavens seem to be silent.
Gene himself is no stranger to suffering and brokenness and God has revealed much to this brother. Gene has such a tender heart for the Lord and this element of his life is so beautifully sensed in his writing. Highly recommended reading. In fact, all of the books by this author are quite good. Other good titles I found to be really a blessing were "A Tale of Three Kings" (get the video version of this book - much better seeing Gene himself tell the story) and The Highest Life.
4 Stars is my high grade for this title. I think I did not regard it as five only because it did kind of leave me hanging a bit at the end, but I suppose this was the point. Rather than just seek a simple answer, I need to learn the suficiency of God's rich grace. It's a contemplative resolve that's not so easy to swallow. I confess I wanted a brighter, simpler answer myself. I was left wondering, could there be more to it than this? But if you're going through some struggle or have a friend who is, this is a book that will be identified with and point you in the direction of grace. It's a great title, worth reading. It's relatively short and can be read in an evening or two.

Gene nails the issue of God's silent nature dead on. What more could be said on this matter after reading this book? Absolutely NONE. Gene wonderfully shows that there must be a "why" aspect in our lives. He writes that w/out the "why's", there would be no real inward transformation in our lives. I learned that the power of an unanswered question can truly change and transform something as evil and decietful as our hearts. Gene takes you from John the Baptist's "why" in prison to Jesus's "why have you forsaken me" on the cross. Very deep stuff here people. I particularly enjoy the way Gene transports the readers into the mind of the Lord as He walks through the corridors of time. After reading this book, you will never again ask God "why" w/out a slight understanding that sometimes silence is the highest way.

Good vegetation descriptions, text sometimes confusing

Georgia is botanically an extremely interesting area in the South Caucasus, with well-preserved wetlands and temperate rainforests, steppes and high mountains.

The book describes all the vegetation types and communities of Georgia, their environmental conditions and principal species. Scientific names are used throughout the book. The taxonomy is somewhat “Russian”, i.e. many taxa, which are considered subspecies, varieties or even synonyms in the west, appear as distinct species, e.g. Quercus pedunculiflora (instead of Q. robur ssp. pedunculiflora), Pinus pityusa (P. brutia var. pityausa), Carpinus caucasica (C. betulus).

English is not always perfect but the text is nevertheless easy to read. Sometimes the text may be confusing, e.g. “Acer laetum [=A. cappadocicum] is confined to West Georgia… In East Georgia, A. laetum is restricted to moist mountain forests” (p. 87).

There are a lot of small color photos. The only maps are a vegetation type map and a protected areas map.

He makes great BBQ, but be wary of the cornbread recipe

I have several of Myron's cookbooks. They are well organized, detailed and the instructions are pretty good. His 'style' of BBQ is very different than mine - I like very very simple BBQ with very little sugar. I like to let the flavor of the meat speak. Having said that, I have learned a lot about technique from reading his books. I think he and Aaron Franklin are the two hottest BBQ chefs in the country. If you can't learn anything from Myron's books you are not being open-minded.

Separately, I made his cornbread recipe not once, but twice. Both times it turned out like a rock. My better half confirmed all the ingredients I put in against the recipe. I am convinced the recipe is missing something - namely a leavening agent. If you make this recipe I recommend adding a tsp of baking powder.

Overall he writes great books, but let's be honest, you didn't buy the book for his baking skills :-)

Follow-up: I wrote Myron's team at jacksoldsouth.com (via the 'contact us' function) about the cornbread recipe. I was most impressed that they wrote back immediately and admitted the recipe was missing a leavening agent...the recipe needs 1.5 tsp of baking powder and 0.5 tsp of baking soda. They will fix the recipe in future editions. So refreshing to deal with an organization that admits its errors so readily. My kind of people.

A friend made them last summer and they were great, even my husband loved them

I just bought this book because of the "Only Sauce" and "Whiskey Grilled Shrimp" recipes. A friend made them last summer and they were great, even my husband loved them, not too hot or spicy. the sauce may be thick, but if you read the recipes, it is used as a marinade as is and mixed with more liquid as a sauce. I hope this is helpful. Our friend is from Kentucky, we are from Tennessee, and Myron Mixon is from Georgia, it has to be good.

havent even cracked the book and I can already tell you

I'm currently on his first cookbook. his recipies are all great the only thing I do recommend is when cooking with this man especially be sure to use a traditional wood/charcoal smoker as a electric smoker will not keep enough heat to cook your meat for and to provide you time to add basting. If you remember his recipies you can easily win any cookoff at your local fair pending he is not around.

These are okay

I guess I was hoping for either multiple choice questions, or bulleted points or just SOMETHING else.
It seems like many of these flash cards may be duplicitous.
They are wordy, and not easy/clear/concise, making much simpler to remember.
I've actually only made it halfway through them.
I guess I could also better evaluate after I take my AOCNP.

For fans of the Horrible History books this is a collection of jokes and cartoon strips taken from Terry's main books: Savage Stone Age, Vile Victorians, Smashing Saxons, Putrid Pirates etc. Each section informs you from which book the content was sourced. There is a linked section for each section allowing you to find where you want to be easily.

What did the mummy say when its brains were being pulled out of its nose? I'm losing my mind.
What happened when Elizabeth I burped? She issued a royal pardon.

IMPORTANT to note that the pages are in FIXED format for E-readers, meaning that you cannot alter the size of the text. The page automatically sizes to the size of your screen. HOWEVER this was very readable on my Kindle Paperwhite which is only a 6" screen. The book finishes at 67% and is then followed by pictures of books in the series etc.

Although the content of the book is a repeat of what is in the other books it is nice to have some of the main jokes all in one place. I purchased this book for my Kindle. I was not required to write a review but chose to do so. Thanks, Liz

The idea behind creating Guy Fieri Food was to pull together the stories and recipes that show how I got to where I am today. With my Guy Fieri Knuckle Sandwich team, I developed recipes for the book by brainstorming on camping trips, on airplanes, through texts, over voicemails, on cocktail napkins, and by stepping into somebody’s kitchen while on the road. From Guy Fieri Food: Cookin' It, Livin' It, Lovin' It: S’more Pizza

Makes 2 pizzas

Ingredients

• 2 store-bought 1-pound pizza dough balls
• 1/4 cup slivered almonds
• 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
• 1 sleeve graham crackers, crushed (about 1-1/4 cups crumbs)
• 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
• 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
• 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
• 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
• 1/4 cup fine cornmeal
• 3 cups mini marshmallows
• Two 4-ounce dark chocolate bars, broken into 1⁄4- inch chunks

Special Equipment: pizza peel and pizza stone (or pizza pan)

I say it on Triple D all the time— everything has a “kicker.” It’s what it takes to make the dish outta bounds. The kicker here is chili and cayenne. . . . Ooooh yeahhhhhh!

Directions

1. Preheat the oven to 400�F.

2. Form the pizza dough into two 12- to 14- inch rounds, 1/4-inch thick. Bake, preferably on a pizza stone, for 4 to 6 minutes, until just beginning to brown. (See page 157 for more help on shaping and baking pizza crusts.) Leave the oven on at 400�F.

3. While the pizza crust is baking, toast the almonds in a dry medium skillet over medium- high heat. Transfer the almonds to a plate to cool.

4. Melt the butter in the skillet. Add the graham cracker crumbs, chili powder, cayenne, and salt. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes, until the crumbs are well- coated. Remove from the heat and set aside.

5. For each pizza, top the crust with half of the marshmallows and scatter half of the chocolate over the marshmallows. Return to the oven for 3 to 5 minutes, until the marshmallows are puffed and lightly browned. Sprinkle the pizza with half of the graham cracker mixture and top with half of the almonds. Let rest 3 to 4 minutes, slice, and serve. Repeat to make the second pizza.

One of the best cookbooks around!

I collect cookbooks of ALL types and I collect signed editions. Anywhere from Gordon Ramsay to Bobby flay. I decided to write a review because I've seen a lot of dumb ones being made about this book. One guy gave a 1 star review because of how Guy dresses...as if he were going to go on a date with him. That has nothing to do with a cookbook review. Guy is actually a really funny guy and great to listen to. Thats like saying you're not going to buy a cookbook because you don't like fat people..or you don't buy books from people with blue eyes. C'mon.

For the actual book, the construction is great and the pages are thick. I personally hate cook books that are built like novels..the ones with flimsy pages, no pictures of the finished product, and all around, poor binding. You will not find this with Guy's book.

The recipes are great. A couple people have said his recipes require too many things or are expensive. All of the ingredients are mostly cheap items you will re use for other recipes in the book. And I hate to say it, but most great recipes do require a lot of ingredients. Look at any book from Bobby Flay for an example. If you want a recipe with 4 ingredients where you just mix them into a bowl and bake it, then you probably shouldn't be in the kitchen. This is a cookbook for cooks.

On that same note, the recipes actually look and taste good. Many of my other cookbooks, especially ones from Gordon, I can only find a couple recipes I think most people would like. In guy's book, its hard to find one I DON'T like.

The last thing I like about this book is how it makes you feel. It's very welcoming and the pictures are great. There are stories, how to stock your pantry, health code tips, and tips for all around culinary techniques. For example, with pasta, it talks about never rinsing your noodles under cold water or cooking them with oil in the water. This, of course, is because rinsing the noodles off also rinses the starch off so the binding for the sauce is gone.

All around, great cook book.

This cookbook is a MUST buy!

Let me first say that I love cookbooks! I can sit and read one just like a novel. I know, my family smiles whenever I get one out of the bookcase, but they all know that my little 'reading' session ends in a great meal. This cookbook is absolutely the best of both worlds; a great story and recipes that will knock your socks off! I literally spent a whole weekend with this book picking out a weeks worth of recipes to try out and OMG, did I pick good! The Penne with Cajun Hot Links and Chipotle Shrimp, Linguine and Clams, Rhode Island Calamari, and Guido's Loma Saltado were some of the best dishes I've ever prepared! Next on the ride will be Spicy Steamed Mussels. Guy gets spices and his use of them in this book couldn't be better. There is something for everyone who loves flavor in their food. This is the BEST book of the year.

Now This is a Cookbook

I love and collect cookbooks, but I find that these days any ol' body will throw some recipes together, call it a cookbook and charge $35 to $40 for it. This is the real deal! For those of us who really enjoy reading a fresh, new cookbook...This is what cookbooks were before the hype. Unique, original recipes, great photos, informative, entertaining, substantial hard bound book with lots of recipes. And, the book is very reasonably priced. It has the size and feel of a coffee table book. This is not pamphlet. You can tell that Guy put a lot of work into staying true to himself in this book. Great job!

I have been dying to make the Jambalaya Sandwich every since I saw it on tv. I'll be having that this weekend. :)
